ALARM
WHY ALARM?
We don’t like to sound like you are reading some schoolbook Introduction to nature, but we must start from somewhere, and probably it would make most sense to start from the beginning.
-
Water is essential to life:
- A man without food can live 3-4 weeks, but without water only 3-4 days;
- Water represents an irreplaceable natural resource, essential for survival and development of all living kind and society. Without water there is no production and no survival;
- 9 million people worldwide lack access to clean water, which is approximately 1 out of 8 people;
- Every 20 seconds a child dies as a result of the sanitary conditions in which they live;
- A five minute shower, in a developed country, is much larger quantity of water than the total daily amount used by a person in an undeveloped country;
- Infectious diseases through water have many more casualties than any war...
- When you brush your teeth, close the faucet! This will save 2 liters of water per day, which is 730 liters per year;
- Take a shower instead of bath in a tub! For one bath in a tub you spend three times more water than for a shower!

For now, it seems that in Macedonia there are no problems with the quantity of water. There are 16 full artificial reservoirs. Water flows in 2700 km long river banks. Water springs from 4468 registered sources. There are 880 water systems and three major natural lakes. However, the quality of the water remains number one problem. To be naturally purified, science has established and the global practice has confirmed that it takes a minimum of 10 to 15 years. The same rule applies to the groundwater purification. This country surprises with indifference and a peripheral manner of solving water problems. Near the water sources there are huge uncontrollable landfills and all that waste, sooner or later, will reach the groundwater. It is a long and, for the human eye, invisible process. Macedonia will soon feel the consequences of such careless attitude towards the waste. Numerous sources will be contaminated, maybe not now, but in a few years for sure.
The concept of sustainable development, as a term which was launched in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro on the World Summit on Environment and Development, intensively flows around the world, from workshops to ministerial conferences, from kindergarten to high - scientific symposia, from everyday informal conversations of ordinary people to important, global forums. Sustainable development presupposes "economic development which is socially responsible and equitable, environmentally acceptable and which relies on the basic tenets of civil society." Unfortunately, the deep and honest analysis will show us that the modern world much less obey rationality, care for tomorrow, for future generations, and much more slavishly follows the glow of money, the ambition for new scientific discoveries, the dream for domination of man over nature. Such a concept is definitely not sustainable. The alternative to this is the world to start converting the concept of sustainable development into practice in the form of daily behavior, living in harmony with nature. Such life is not a fictional philosophy or a high political agenda for the future. Such life must be happening here and now, for all and for everyone.
ALARM FOR NATURE 2010 includes work on specific projects, both ecological and in the field of music and art, which will contribute to awakening the sense of connection and interdependence between man and nature and implementation of healthy lifestyle in harmony with the natural surroundings. ALARM FOR NATURE unites the forces of the green army, music & art, education and student organizations, science and technology, architecture, government and NGOs, young and old, ALL in joint action to face and solve environmental problems.
The three-day music festival in nature, with the possibility of camping, aims to draw people, especially young people, from the grayness of city life and to return the love and respect to nature.
During the festival, visitors will have an opportunity to see and hear their favorite music bands, DJs and some new prosperous demo bands, watch several theater performances like the latest music theater Fist Full of Love, short art films, to follow 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP on a big screens outdoors, the opportunity to sunbathe, to swim in the waters of Lake Ohrid, to take part in sport tournaments and different leisure activities, take part in the art colony…

There will also be an opportunity to learn about recycling and renewable energy sources , eco friendly resources, products and technologies, organic food and healthy lifestyle that contribute to clean environment, to get familiar/involve with the activities of many NGO’s from South-east Europe that act on this field etc.
The festival will present the work, products and technologies of all those working on the restoration and preservation of the environment and the human health.
THE BASIC IDEA IS TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTHY LIFE STYLE.
ALARM 1 had the opportunity to become a brand and to be praised as festival with a unique quality. This year, we will try to do something that will last longer, a festival with good, modest and quality program. Do not expect famous world known names, names from charts and MTV machinery, this year we will start building this festival together with you and we hope that through the years it will become better and better. In Macedonia, as you already know, there is no open air festival. We will start filling this hole this year and we will continue to do that every following year.
Dear audience, distinguished media professionals, we hope that you will give all the necessary support to this project and that this year's ALARM FOR NATURE, with a new green concept that has not been implemented so far, will justify your expectations. In order to show you that the ecology is not just a cover-up for media campaigns and festival making, we invite you to visit the website www.alarmzaprirodata.mk and join the green army- guardians of the rivers.
